BCL activists on chairs, JCD men on floor at Madhu’s Canteen

Leaders and activists of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) on Thursday were forced to sit on the floor of Madhu’s Canteen as Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) men occupied all the chairs and tables before their arrival.

JCD men alleged that the ruling party men intentionally occupied all the chairs and 10 tables so that they could not stay there and carry out their political activities.

JCD General Secretary Iqbal Hossain Shyamal came to the canteen around 11am along with over a hundred activists and sat on the floor failing to find any chair. Later, its President Fazlur Rahman Khokon together with some activists joined them.

While talking to the media, Shyamal said, “After the formation of our new committee, we try to come to Madhu’s Canteen every day to carry out our political activities. But two days into the committee formation, BCL men attacked us, leaving our 40 activists and three journalists injured."

Expressing his anger, Shyamul said there were many empty chairs but they did not get a single one to sit on. “This is the true scenario of their occupying activities all over the country.”

At that time, BCL acting General Secretary Lekhak Bhattacharjee was present on the other side of the canteen along with his followers.

Asked about occupying the chairs and tables, he said, “We came here as part of our regular activities. Our leaders and activists are more than theirs. So, we need more chairs and tables."
