Stay on DNCC polls ‘utter failure’ of EC, says BNP

Dhaka, Jan 17 (Just News): The High Court’s stay order on the by-polls of Dhaka North City Corporation reflects “utter failure” of the Election Commission, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said today.

The government conducted several surveys and came to know that they will not be able to win the polls, Fakhrul told journalists on Alia Madrasah premises at Bakshi Bazar.

Now, they are taking benefit of the Election Commission’s failure, he said.

The BNP leader further said demarcation of election area is must before declaring polls schedule but Election Commission declared the date of DNCC polls without the formalities.

Fakhrul was accompanying BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia as she appeared before the makeshift court at Bakshi Bazar in Zia Orphanage Trust Graft case.

Defense counsel Ahsanullah for Sharafuddin Ahmed, another accused of the case, was placing closing arguments before the Special Court-5 till this afternoon.
