Police bar BNP’s ‘democracy killing day’ programme

Bangladesh Nationalist Party will hold protest programmes in Dhaka on Tuesday as the police ‘have barred their prescheduled protest programme marking democracy killing day on December 30.’

BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi made the announcement at a press briefing at the party’s Naya Paltan office in Dhaka on Monday.

He said that the police in uniform and plain clothes took position in front of the BNP party offices in Naya Paltan and Fakirer Pool Intersection at about 11:30am.

‘We will hold thana-wise protest programmes across Dhaka tomorrow as we could not hold our programme today,’ said the senior BNP leader.

BNP on Sunday declared to hold countrywide demonstration programmes to observe ‘democracy killing day,’ denouncing the December 30, 2018, general election that witnessed widespread rigging and ousting of opposition agents from polling centres.
