Pentagon Press Secretary John Kirby has said the US prefers partnership rather than establishing control in the Indo-Pacific.

“It’s not about U.S. control in the Indo-Pacific; it’s about protecting our country from threats and challenges that emanate from that part of the world, and it's about revitalizing our network of alliances and partnerships to help our -- our partners in the international community do the same,” said John Kirby while replying to a question about the country’s role in the Indo-Pacific region.

At the briefing, Pentagon correspondent Mushfiqul Fazal asked, “The U.S. service members contribution are remarkable. They stands for the the Afghan people with sacrificing their lives, incredible job done by them . With consideration of that, my question is somewhat strategic. Do you think the removal of the US troops from Afghanistan will reduce your control within the Indo-Pacific, the U.S. control?”

In response, the Pentagon Press Secretary Kirby said, “It’s not about U.S. control in the Indo-Pacific; it’s about protecting our country from threats and challenges that emanate from that part of the world, and it’s about revitalizing our network of alliances and partnerships to help our -- our partners in the international community do the same. That's why the Secretary's first trip was to the region. He just came back from the region. The Vice President just returned literally this morning from the region.”

“We are laser-focused on the Indo-Pacific and the -- the security challenges, as well as the opportunities that are there. It's not about U.S. control; it’s about U.S. partnership” the Press Secretary added
