BD election must be free, fair, participatory: US

Special Correspondent from Washington, Nov 8 (Just News): The United State  “encourage continued discussions and an open exchange of ideas as Bangladesh approaches its national elections, which must be free, fair, credible, participatory and reflect the will of the Bangladeshi people.”

A State Department spokesperson made this comment to reply a question over upcoming Bangladesh parliamentary election as Just News BD asked for a reaction about the recent ‘controversial’ election schedule of Bangladesh Election Commission.

The US State Department spokesperson said, “Open dialogue and freedom of expression are central to the democratic process”.

“We support the democratic process and values that the people of both Bangladesh and the United States hold dear, “ the spokesperson added.

Bangladesh govment has declared the next national Election schedule on 23 December just in Christmas Eve.

Major opposition parties are in dialogue with the ruling authority but without any conclusion or accepting any demands of the opposition the controversial Chief Election Commissioner has declared the schedule. Opposition party already opposed the schedule and urging the full filling the 7 points demand first according to dialogue for a free and fair election.
