‘All parties should feel safe to join campaign across country’

Special Correspondent from Washington, Dec 19 (Just News): The US has urged “all parties should be free and feel safe to participate fully in the political process, which includes the freedom to express their political views, campaign throughout the country, and hold peaceful rallies and meetings.”

A spokesperson of the State Department came up with this comment in reply to question of Just News BD over upcoming election in Bangladesh.

The United States encourages the Government of Bangladesh to fulfill its commitment to holding free, fair, participatory, and credible elections that reflect the will of the Bangladeshi people.

“We are concerned by the violence that has marred the beginning of the campaigning process and call on all actors, no matter their political party or sentiment, to act peacefully and responsibly. Violence hinders the democratic process and only serves those who wish to undermine it,” the spokesperson said.

“The United States does not support any particular candidate or party in the upcoming elections; we support the democratic process and values the people of Bangladesh and the United States hold dear,” the Spokesperson added.
