Bangladesh makes 193

Dhaka, Feb 14 (Just News): Three brilliant knocks from Soumya Sarkar, Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah set Bangladesh to their highest ever T20 score in the first game of the T20 series against Sri Lanka on Thursday.

The hosts had handed debuts to four players, but that did not matter for the senior batsmen who did their job perfectly, leading the team to 193 for 5 in the stipulated 20 overs.

Winning the toss, stand-in skipper Mahmudullah opted to bat first and openers Soumya and Zakir Hasan made 49 in the first four overs.

Zakir, one of the four to make their maiden T20 international appearance, made 10 off 9 balls, which says how attacking Soumya was.

Soumya's 51 off 32 featured six fours and two sixes while top-scorer Mushfiq's 66 came in 44 balls, courtesy of seven fours and a six.

Mahmudullah fired 43 off 31 balls in a 73-run partnership with Mushfiq.

The highest Sri Lanka successfully chased in a T20 is 175 and there is every reason Bangladesh can hope to begin the last phase of the tour on a high.
