Shakib Al Hasan threatened with life on Facebook live

The police in Sylhet said on Monday that they started to investigate a death threat issued by a youth on Facebook live against national all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan on allegation of ‘hurting religious sentiment.’

The youth, Mahsin Talukdar, aged about 30, of Talukderpara village at Tuker Bazar union under sadar upazila in Sylhet, issued the threat from his Facebok account early Monday.

He came to live at 12:06am and scolded Shakib in abusive language keeping a large machete in his hand and threatened to kill him for inaugurating Kali puja at a mandap in India’s Kolkata recently.

In the video, Mahsin claimed that Shakib should be killed as he hurt the religious sentiment of Muslims by inaugurating the puja mandap.

‘Shakib must be killed. I would murder him by hacking if I get him in touch,’ Mahsin claimed in the video.

He came to live again in the early morning and apologised for ‘being rude’ in the previous video.

Mahsin also urged Shakib to apologise for ‘hurting the Muslims.’

Jalalabad police officer-in-charge Akil Uddin Ahmad told New Age that they informed the higher authorities about the incident immediately after they came to know about it.

Meanwhile, Shakib denied inaugurating puja mandap and begged for forgiveness.

‘Media, social media everywhere it was flooded that I went to Kolkata to inaugurate a puja ceremony which actually was not the reason behind my visit and I did not inaugurate puja,’ Shakib said in Facebook live on Monday.

‘Puja was inaugurated by Firhad Hakim, mayor of Kolkata. In my invitation card it was clearly mentioned that I was not the chief guest for puja,’ he said.

‘As I played for Kolkata Knight Riders for a few years, people know and love me there. The stage, where my programme took place, was next to puja pandal but no religious issues were discussed,’ he said.

‘While I was going back to the car, I had to go through the pandal because all other exits were blocked. There I stopped for a few seconds and as the crowd and organisers requested, I lit a candle which now I feel that I have done wrong.

‘Being a practising Muslim I always try to follow the religious customs. Please forgive me if I have done anything wrong,’ he said.
