SL survive nervy overs after Bangladesh declare on 541-7

Sri Lankan openers survived 8 overs to head into the Lunch break on 11-0 after Bangladesh declared its first innings on 541-7 in the morning session of Day three of the first Test against Sri Lanka on Friday.

Sri Lanka skipper Dimuth Karunaratne and Lahiru Thirimanne remained not out on six and five respectively.

Taskin Ahmed almost fetched a wicket in the final over of the session when he struck the pads of Thirimanne and umpire Kumar Dharmasena raised his finger.

But upon referral, the ball-tracking showed that the ball was narrowly missing the stumps and the decision was rightfully overturned.

Earlier, resuming the day’s play on 474-4, overnight batsman Liton Das scored some quick runs before giving way to Vishwa Fernando for 50 off 67 balls.

But Mushfiqur Rahim made sure Bangladesh’s score kept ticking along before skipper Mominul Haque called back his batters.

Mushfiq remained unbeaten on 68 while Taskin Ahmed was not out on six.

Sri Lankan pacer Fernando struck twice today and finished with 4-96.
