Jamie Day out, Bruzon in for SAFF Championship

Bangladesh Football Federation on Friday made a surprising decision to remove national team head coach Jamie Day from his position for two months and in his place appointed Bashundhara Kings coach Oscar Bruzon to coach the side in the upcoming SAFF Championship.

The decision was made after a national team committee’s meeting on Friday. Interestingly, the BFF chose not to fire Day, who has one year left in his contract, and instead has relieved him from his duties for the next two months.

The federation was unhappy with the team’s recent performance under Day and was particularly displeased by the Englishman’s continuous experimentations with the team.

When contacted by New Age in the afternoon, Day said he was unaware of this decision and said that no one from the board had conveyed the news to him yet.

Bruzon, on the other hand, was at the dugout of the Bangabandhu National Stadium for his side’s game against Sheikh Russell, which the Kings won 1-0, when the news broke.

Bruzon will now coach the Bangladesh team in the SAFF Championship next month in the Maldives and also in the four-nation competition in Sri Lanka in November.

Day has been with the national team since 2018 and has coached the side in 29 international matches.

Recently, Bangladesh lost against Palestine, Kyrgyzstan and Kyrgyzstan Under-23 team under him.
