Adultery case: Cricketer Nasir, wife get bail

A Dhaka court today granted bail to cricketer Nasir Hossain and his wife Tamima Sultana in a case filed over adultery and defamation.

The court also granted bail to Tamima's mother Sumi Akter in the case.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Tofazzal Hossain passed the order after they surrendered before it, seeking bail in the case.

The magistrate fixed January 24, 2022 for hearing on charge framing against them in the case.

During today's hearing, defence lawyer told the court that his clients on October 31 secured bail from the court of Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Jashim after their surrender before it.

On September 30, the same magistrate asked Nasir, Tamima and Sumi to appear before it by October 31, after accepting the probe report of the case.

The same day, Investigation Officer Sheikh Md Mizanur Rahman, also an inspector of Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), submitted a probe report to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court of Dhaka, terming the marriage of Nasir and Tamima "illegal".

On February 24, Md Rakib Hasan, Tamima's ex-husband, filed the case with the court.

According to the case documents, Tamima tied the knot with Nasir without divorcing the complainant.
