Bangladesh win with record 176 balls to spare to bag ODI series against Windies

Tamim Iqbal hit the winning runs to score his 53rd fifty and Bangladesh lived up to favourites tag with a convincing eight-wicket victory in the second ODI against the West Indies at the Providence Stadium in Guyana on Wednesday and emphatically sealed the three-match series with a game in hand.

The latest encounter was not much of a contest as right from winning toss and opting to bowl first, Tamim and Co never lost control of the game and eventually chased a paltry 109 target with utmost ease, with nine wickets and 176 balls to spare – becoming the largest margin of victory away from home, in terms of balls remaining after a successful chase, surpassing the nine-wicket victory against South Africa in Centurion where the Tigers won with 141 deliveries to spare earlier this year.

The Tigers, thus, extended their winning streak against the Windies in the 50-over format to 10 matches and also clinched their fourth bilateral series in a row against the Caribbean side, a much-needed triumph after having conceded the Test and T20I series by 2-0 earlier in the tour.

Having romped to a comfortable six-wicket win in the first ODI at the same ground three days ago, the Tigers repeated their act of dominance with the ball in hand earlier in the day. And even though the Windies' last-wicket stand frustrated the visitors again today with a 22-run stand, eventually the hosts were bundled out for 108 in 35 overs – leading to Bangladesh's best bowling performance against a Test-playing nation away from home -- courtesy of some fine display of spin bowling from the likes of player-of-the-match Nasum Ahmed, Mosaddek Hossain Saikat and Mehedi Hasan Miraz, all of whom combined to eight scalps.

In reply, Bangladesh only lost the wicket of Najmul Hossain Shanto, out for 20, as skipper Tamim struck seven fours for his 62-ball 50 and with Liton Das completing the formality with a fluent 32 off 27 balls, laced with six boundaries.
