Rony, Liton guide Bangladesh to 207-5 before rain

Rony Talukdar hit his maiden fifty to power Bangladesh to 207-5 before rain ended their innings in the first Twenty20 international against Ireland in Chattogram on Monday.

Rony, who made 67 off 38 balls, helped set up the innings putting on 91 runs in the opening stand with Liton Das after Ireland elected to bowl first.

Liton made 47 off 23 balls before he holed out a catch to Paul Stirling at mid-off.

Ireland had soon another breakthrough as Harry Tector dragged Najmul Hossain forward for a stumping on 14.

Graham Hume bowled Rony , who hit seven fours and three sixes , but Bangladesh continued their free-flowing innings thanks to promoted Shamim Hossain.

Shamim made 30 off 20 balls and despite Towhid Hridoy’s dismissal for 13, the Tigers raced past 200-run, only fourth time in their history.

Skipper Shakib Al Hasan played his part with 20 not out from 13 balls before rain brought a premature end to their innings with four balls left.

Craig Young claimed 2-45 for Ireland .
