Dhaka humble Comilla to reach final

Dhaka, Dec 8 (Just News): Holders Dhaka Dynamites booked their place in the Bangladesh Premier League 2017 final outclassing Comilla Victorians by 95 runs in the Qualfier 1 on Friday.

Barring Tamim Iqbal, none of Comilla’s top and middle order batsmen could reach double figure, as they were bundled out for a sorry 96 by an attacking Dhaka bowling unit.

Tamim's 31 came off 28 balls, but that was very little to scale Dhaka's 191 down.

In fact, had number-nine batsman Hasan Ali and number-ten batsman Mahedi Hasan not made 18 and 15 respectively, it would have been a more humiliating defeat for the Victorians.

Shahid Afridi was the tormentor-in-chief, bagging three wickets for only 16 runs while Mosaddek Hossain and skipper Shakib Al Hasan bagged two each for Dhaka.

Choosing to bat first, Dhaka posted 191 for 7 thanks to opener Evin Lewis' 47.

Opener Mehedi Maruf was sent to the pavillion by Hasan Ali in the second over, but Lewis and Joe Denly then added 69 in the second wicket to steady the ship.

Shoaib Malik then bowled in-form Lewis, whose 32-ball innings featured six fours and three sixes.

Denly hit 32 in 25 deliveries while Kieron Pollard slammed 31 off 18 balls to keep the tempo up. The duo made 53 in the third wicket.

Shahid Afridi also made 30 in 19 balls, thanks to four sixes.

His compatriot Hasan Ali was the most successful bowler for Comilla, his three wickets coming for only 16. Dwayne Bravo bagged two.

Afridi was adjudged the player-of-the-match for his all-round performance.
