Fazle the surprise call-up in Tigers' squad for Zimbabwe ODIs

Dhaka, Oct 11 (Just News): There was no place for Soumya Sarkar or Mominul Haque as Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced a 15-man squad for the home ODI series against Zimbabwe, scheduled to begin from October 21.

Openers Soumya Sarkar and Imrul Kayes were flown in half way through the Asia Cup at UAE after Bangladesh kept losing early wickets in every game. Both players were initially excluded from the Asia Cup squad but while Imrul has now been retained, Soumya failed to make the squad for Zimbabwe series in the absence of stalwarts like Tamim Iqbal and Shakib Al Hasan, who are nursing injuries and were excluded from the final squad.

All-rounders Mohammad Saifuddin and Fazle Rabbi have been included in the squad with the former playing his last ODI back in January during the final of the tri-nation ODI series against Sri Lanka while the latter will be making his debut for Bangladesh. Rabbi is a left-handed batsman who plays for Barishal Division and has seven first class hundreds with an average of 33.16. He also has four hundreds in List A at an average of 30.98 in 80 matches.

All-rounder Ariful Haque, who did not play a single game during the Asia Cup nonetheless was retained for the Zimbabwe series.

Mosaddek Hossain meanwhile was dropped while opener Nazmul Hossain Shanto, who hit a 173 for Rajshahi in the NCL just two days ago was retained.

Pacemen Abu Hider Rony and Rubel Hossain were included in the squad.

Team: Mashrafe Bin Mortaza (Captain), Liton Kumer Das, Imrul Kayes, Nazmul Hossain Shanto, Mushfiqur Rahim, Md Mithun, Mahmudullah Riyad, Ariful Haque, Mehedi Hasan Miraz, Mustafizur Rahman, Nazmul Islam Apu, Rubel Hossain, Abu Haider Rony, Mohammad Saifuddin, Fazle Rabbi
