Mushfiqur, Mahmudullah see out tricky first session

Dhaka, Nov 12 (Just News) : Bangladesh captain Mahmudullah Riyad and Mushfiqur Rahim batted through the first session of the second day, negotiating some good bowling from the Zimbabweans as the Tigers went to lunch on a dominant 365 for five.

There was enough assistance in the Sher-eBangla National Stadium wicket for the Zimbabwe pacers bowling with a ball that was just 10 overs old when Bangladesh resumed on 303 for five. On the first day Bangladesh were cut down to 26 for three in the first session before Mominul Haque and Mushfiqur Rahim's 266-run fourth-wicket partnership saved the day.

Mominul was out in the last hour for 161, but Mushfiqur remained unbeaten on 111. He added 34 more runs to that score before lunch on the second day, continuing his patient vigil as Bangladesh look to bat Zimbabwe out of the game and take a share of the spoils from the two-Test series after succumbing to a 1512-run defeat in the first Test.

Mahmudullah was also the picture of patience and judicial shot selection, reaching 35 off 104 deliveries with three boundaries.

Zimbabwe suffered a blow in the 100 th over, the 10th of the day, when pacer Tendai Chatara pulled awkwardly up in his delivery stride and clutched his left thigh, letting out a cry of pain. He eventually had to be carried off on a stretcher, with fellow pacer Donald Tiripano bowling the remaining three balls of the over.
