Mashrafee breaks opening stand

The hosts reached 145-1 in 23 overs with Jason Roy closing in on a century having remained unbeaten on 87.

Roy, who raced to his fifty off just 38 balls, put 128-run in the opening stand with Johnny Bairstow before Bangladesh got their breakthrough after electing to bowl first.

Mehedi Hasan took a low, diving catch at cover point to end the innings of Bairstow, who fell soon after completing his maiden World Cup fifty. Bairstow, who made 50 off 51 balls, struck six fours.

He became the first victim of Bangladesh skipper Mashrafee, who ended his four-match wicket-less streak with this wicket.Bangladesh began their bowling with spinner Sakib al Hasan, who kept things tight but Mashrafee and Mohammad Saifuddin allowed England openers to free their arms on the other end.

The weather remains bright after overnight drizzle followed by heavy rain at the Wales capital.Bangladesh fielded the same squad that played in their opening two matches, respectively against South Africa and New Zealand while England brought Liam Plunkett for Moeen Ali.
