While it has been a common occurrence to see a game being halted or even abandoned due to rain in England in this edition of the World Cup, it was something bizarre that stopped the game between Sri Lanka and South Africa at the Riverside Ground in Chester-le-Street today.

After 47.5 overs, when Sri Lanka were struggling at 194 for eight, a swarm of bees flew across the ground, forcing the players and umpires flat on the ground with their hands protecting their heads. The game was stopped for a brief period.

Once the bees made their way out, the Sri Lankans resumed their batting, only to get bowled out within the next 10 balls adding just nine runs.

With the meagre total to defend in which could be a crucial one for their qualifying hopes, Dimuth Karunaratne and Co would be looking to the likes of Lasith Malinga and Suranga Lakmal to sting the Proteas like bees to revive their chances.
