Tigers call-up U-19 spinner for SL Test

Dhaka, Jan 26 (Just News) : Bangladesh selectors on Friday included Under-19 off-spinner Naeem Hasan for the first of the two Tests against Sri Lanka, beginning at Chittagong next week.

Naeem is the member of Bangladesh squad for the ongoing ICC Under-19 World Cup, where he picked up three wickets in as many matches, including 2-36 against India on Friday’s quarter-final.

Naeem turned 17 only in December and have played so far only four first-class matches.

If he wins Test cap on January 31 at the age of 17-year 60 days he will be the third youngest player to play Test for Bangladesh after Talha Jubair and Enamul Haque Jr.

Selectors axed batsman Sabbir Rahman while Soumya Sarkar, Taskin Ahmed, Subashis Roy and Shafiul Islam, who were left out of the one-day international side for the ongoing tri-series, lost their place in Test squad too.

Batsman Mosaddek Hossain and pace bowler Kamrul Islam were recalled into the side.

Sakib al Hasan also returned to the team after taking a break from Bangladesh’s previous Test series against South Africa.

Sakib replaced Mushfiqur Rahim as captain of the side after Bangladesh lost both their Test matches in South Africa by a huge margin.

The second Test will be held in Dhaka from February 8-12.

Squad: Sakib al Hasan (Capt), Mahmudullah, Tamim Iqbal, Liton Das, Mushfiqur Rahim, Imrul Kayes, Mominul Haque, Mosaddek Hossain, Taijul Islam, Mustafizur Rahman, Kamrul Islam, Mehedi Hasan, Rubel Hossain, and Naeem Hasan.
