Special Correspondent from Washington, May 15 (Just News): First lady Melania Trump hospitalized following undergoing surgical procedure to treat a kidney condition on Monday morning.

White House Communications director Stephanie Grisham on Monday in a statement said First Lady Melania Trump underwent an embolization procedure to treat a benign kidney condition. The procedure was successful and there were no complications, he added.

Mrs. Trump is at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and will likely remain there for the duration of the week.

The Communications director said the First Lady looks forward to a full recovery so she can continue her work on behalf of children everywhere.

The president spoke with Melania Trump Monday morning before the procedure and with a doctor at Walter Reed after the procedure. In the late afternoon, the president flew by helicopter to Walter Reed to visit the first lady for about an hour before returning to the White House.

Monday evening, the president posted on Twitter that he was heading over to the military medical facility to see the first lady. “She is in good spirits," the president also said, adding, “Thank you to all of the well-wishers!”

Dr. David Madoff, interventional radiologist at New York Presbyterian, Weill Cornell Medical Center, said that “Depending on the circumstance, if this was a known elective procedure, [a patient] could potentially go home the same day.”

“It’s like literally an outpatient procedure,” said Dr. Eleanor D. Lederer, a professor at the University of Louisville School of Medicine and past president of the American Society of Nephrology. “You go in, you have it done, you lie in bed for a while to keep the blood vessel from bleeding and then you go home.”
