Clean city a responsibility of everyday: Asif Mahmud

Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain has said a clean city is not just a goal, but a responsibility of everyday.

In a post on his verified facebook page on Monday, he wrote that 100 percent wastes of sacrificial animals was removed in 487 wards of 12 city corporations by 10 pm on Eid ul Azha day and this was possible due to collective planning, hard working and love.

He also said, “This is not just a statistic, it is the victory of our promise, cleanliness is now not just a promise, but a reality.”

Asif Mahmud said Dhaka was made clean in less than 12 hours while the Ministry of Local Government could keep its promise due to the sense of responsibility of the city dwellers and the tireless work of the cleanliness workers.

"A clean city is not just a goal but it is a daily responsibility. I express my gratitude and thanks to all my colleagues involved in dispensing this responsibility," he said.

The adviser said according to the reports 12 city corporations removed 40,104 tonnes of sacrificial animal wastes on Eid day making 487 wards completely free from wastage thanks to 35,272 cleanliness workers for their service.

In this regard, Asif Mahmud said everyone knows that animals are sacrificed for three days, including Eid.

He said the waste that was reported on the second day of Eid was the waste of animals sacrificed on the second day.

The adviser also mentioned that many did not sacrifice animals at the designated place of the city corporation.

"Despite this, our cleanliness workers completed the work before the scheduled time. This programme will continue on the third day of Eid as well," he said.
