Dhaka-North rail link snapped as train derailed in Gazipur after collision

Train communications between Dhaka and Bangladesh’s northern districts remained suspended following derailment of nine compartments of two trains as a commuter train collided head-on with a standing oil tanker train in Kazipara area near Joydebpur station in Gazipur on Friday.

The accident that left at least four people injured occurred at about 11:00am, said Joydebpur Railway Station’s station master Abu Hanif.

Gazipur district administration, following the incident, formed a three-member committee to investigate into the incident.

Hanif and locals said that the Dhaka-bound commuter train from Tangail left Joydebpur Station at 11:00 am.

When the train reached the outer signal, it collided with a standing oil-tanker train at Kazibari Chhoto Deora area of Joydebpur outer signal, he said and added that the injured people were admitted to Gazipur Shahid Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital.
