Police have detained 23 people on suspicion of having links to extremist activities from a mosque at Tejgaon College in Dhaka’s Farmgate area.
A Tejgaon police station officer confirmed the detention.
The 23 people were detained on Friday afternoon and were being kept in police custody at Tejgaon police station, he said.
Several senior officials of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime unit and Tejgaon division also confirmed the matter.
The police officer said the 23 were detained while allegedly holding a secret meeting inside the college mosque.
An additional deputy commissioner of the CTTC said that police were verifying the information about the detainees.
‘We will take action against them after completing the verification process,’ he said.
