Five people from Lakshmipur, including four members of the same family, were killed in a tragic road accident in Saudi Arabia while returning home after performing Umrah.
The deceased are expatriate Mizanur Rahman Mizan, 40, his wife Farzana Akter Sumi, 30, their school-going daughter Meher Afroze, 13, and one-and-a-half-year-old daughter Subha Akter.
The driver of the vehicle, Md Jilani Babar, 30, also died.
Mizan's second daughter, Faiza Akter, 11, was critically injured and is undergoing treatment at a hospital in Jeddah, confirmed Mizan's elder brother, Baharul Alam, on Monday afternoon (16 February).
According to Baharul Alam, his brother Mizan travelled for Umrah with his wife and three daughters on 3 February. After completing the pilgrimage, they were on their way home from Jeddah when they met a fatal accident on Sunday (15 February) night, around 3am Bangladesh time.
Mizan's cousin, Rifatul Islam, said they confirmed the deaths through another expatriate from a neighbouring village, Parvez Bhuiyan.
Ramganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer Farashid Bin Enam, expressing condolences, said the administration would provide all necessary assistance to bring the bodies back home.
Mizan hailed from Nalkora village under Bhatra Union of Ramganj upazila in Lakshmipur and was the son of Shahid Ullah of the Oshim Uddin Bepari Bari.
Meher Afroze was a sixth-grade student of the local Turi High School.
The deceased driver was the son of Abul Hossain Patwari Khoka of the Patwari Bari in Bishnupur village under the same union.
