In a press briefing on Thursday, UN Secretary-General spokesperson Stephen Dujarric addressed concerns raised by Nobel laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus regarding the seizure of his Grameen offices by the Bangladesh regime. The professor also disclosed new charges filed against him by the government.

When questioned about the Secretary-General's awareness of the situation, Dujarric responded, "We're very much aware. I'd have to reiterate that Mr. Yunus has been a valued partner of the United Nations over the years."

Dujarric highlighted Dr. Yunus's role as an advocate in both official and unofficial capacities, supporting various initiatives related to the Millennium Development Goals, the Sustainable Development Goals, and overall development work. Expressing concern, he stated, "We are deeply troubled by the reports coming out of Bangladesh on issues related to him."

The UN's acknowledgment of Dr. Yunus's significance as a partner underscores the international community's attention to the challenges faced by the Nobel laureate. As the situation unfolds, global eyes remain on the developments surrounding the harassment and legal actions against Professor Muhammad Yunus, a figure synonymous with social entrepreneurship and economic development.
