8 arrested over lynching of 2 construction workers in Faridpur

Police on Tuesday evening arrested eight people over the killing of two construction workers by an unruly mob on suspicion that the duo set fire to a Hindu temple in Dumain Union under Faridpur's Madhukhali upazila.

The arrests were made following raids at various places.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Mohammad Morshed Alam confirmed the information in a press conference at the office of Faridpur Superintendent of Police at around 8:30pm.

The eight arrested are Ujjal Kumar Mitra, 33, Biswajit Mallik, 52, Kanak Biswas, 27, Tapan Kumar Mondol, 40, Anup Roy, 31, Tutul Chandra Mondol, 30, Prasenjit Sarkar, 20, and Sujoy Biswas, 16.

The SP said in a press conference that four people, namely Binoy Saha, 60, Ujjal Kumar Biswas, 41, Govind Sarkar, 28, and Anay Bhaduri, 19, were arrested and sent to court in a raid from April 19-22.

Two construction workers, both siblings, were killed by a mob on suspicion that the duo set fire to a Hindu temple in Dumain Union under Faridpur's Madhukhali upazila on Thursday.

Five more workers sustained severe injuries in the mob attack. Two of them were hospitalized.
