Pentagon Press Secretary Major General Pat Ryder has expressed the United States’ readiness to work with the newly formed interim government of Bangladesh, led by Nobel laureate Dr. Muhammad Yunus, to advance shared values and interests, including a free and open Indo-Pacific.

In response to a question from Pentagon correspondent Mushfiqul Fazal Ansarey during a Pentagon briefing regarding the role of the Bangladesh Army in supporting peace and stability under Dr. Yunus’ leadership, Major General Ryder emphasized the existing defense relationship between the two countries. Ansarey also inquired about any ongoing collaboration or communication between the United States and the Bangladesh military during this transitional period.

“Well, as you know, we do have a defense relationship with Bangladesh. We look forward to working together to support our shared values and interests, such as a free and open Indo-Pacific. I don’t have anything specific to share right now regarding current contacts,” Major General Ryder replied.

He further added, “As it relates to the Bangladesh government, of course, we expect human rights to be observed and for any form of violence to be avoided. For further details on the broader US-Bangladesh relationship, I’d refer you to our State Department.”
