Mymensingh blast: Death toll rises to 4

Mymensingh, Mar 30 (Just News): Two friends injured in the cylinder blast in Mymensingh’s Bhaluka have died in less than nine hours, taking the death toll to four.

Dipto Sarkar, a student of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology, was the latest victim who died around 9.30am on Friday at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, his doctor said.

After the cylinder blast in a tented house in Bhaluka, three classmates were admitted to the DMCH with severe burns six days ago.

Dipto who died on Friday morning was 22-year old. His death came in less than nine hours after 24-year-old Hafizur Rahman succumbed to his injuries.

Partha Sarkar, a doctor at the burns unit of the DMCH, declared them dead and said the fire burned 54 percent of Dipto’s body and 58 percent of Hafizur’s body.

Their classmates Shaheen Mian died on Wednesday and Towheedul Islam Topu, 24, died instantly after the explosion on Mar 24.

After the incident, Bhaluka Police Station OC Mamun-ar-Rashid said SI Kazal lodged the case on behalf of the victims against Abdur Razzak Dhali, 52, owner of AS Tower, after the explosion rocked the newly constructed building.

The blast shattered everything inside the flat on the third floor of the building that was rented by four students of the Khulna University of Engineering and Technology on March 10.

A bomb disposal unit from Dhaka confirmed that the blast was triggered by a gas cylinder.
