‘Quota demo on hold, ignore divergent faction’

Dhaka, Apr 10 (Just News): Protesters have urged all to ignore the divergent faction of the quota movement and asserted that their movement has been suspended until May 7 on the assurance of the government.

The fresh call was made in a press conference, held at Dhaka University Central Library premises this morning. Hundreds of agitating students were present during the media briefing.

“Since the start, there was a faction who were trying to spoil the movement,” said Rashed Khan, joint convener of Bangladesh General Students' Rights Protection Forum; urging the media to refrain from covering the divergent faction.

Apologies were also made for assault and mistreatment to some media crew during the movement.

“We have suspended our movement until May 7 upon assurance of the prime minister. The government has assured us our demands will be met by the time,” Nurul Huq, another joint convener of the forum, said.

The platform also demanded apology from Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury for her comments at the parliament last night.

The movement that saw a converge of thousands of students was put on hold yesterday evening after a meeting with the authorities. However, a divergent faction denied to bow and continued demonstration.

Some students formed a human chain at the base of Raju Sculpture, next to TSC, at Dhaka University this morning. They were seen standing with placards calling for justice.

Some among them were of the divergent faction who continued movement last night after the protests were called off until May 7.
