Mamata’s TMC sweeps Bengal

Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress won in a high-stakes electoral battle, trouncing Bharatiya Janata Party to form the government for a third consecutive term in the West Bengal state of India, reported The Indian Express on Sunday.

Indian prime minister Narendra Modi in a tweet congratulated Mamata for her party’s win.

According to the latest data from the Election Commission, the newspaper reported, TMC is on its course to win over 210 seats in a 294-member Assembly, while BJP is likely to win 77 seats. However, the suspense over the hotly-contested Nandigram verdict continues with CM Banerjee and BJP’s Suvendu Adhikari being engaged in a neck and neck contest.

Narendra Modi tweeted, ‘Congratulations to Mamata Didi for @AITCofficial's win in West Bengal. The Centre will continue to extend all possible support to the West Bengal Government to fulfil people’s aspirations and also to overcome the COVID-19 pandemic. @MamataOfficial.’
