'Gangster' among 3 shot dead at Delhi court

In a harrowing incident during broad daylight, an alleged gangster and two others were killed in a shootout inside a court in Delhi that has left several people injured. In videos, gunshots are heard and policemen and lawyers are seen in a scramble.

The gangster, Jitender Gogi, was allegedly shot dead by a rival gang right inside the court complex at Rohini, north Delhi, reports NDTV. Two of the attackers are also believed to be among the dead - they were allegedly shot dead by security personnel.

Jitender Gogi, a notorious gangster involved in several criminal cases and jailed at Tihar, was being produced in court when members of the rival "Tillu gang" entered the court, dressed as lawyers, and opened fire. Gogi died instantly, according to witnesses.

"Two from rival gang opened fire at Jitender Gogi inside the court. That's when police retaliated and killed those two assailants," Delhi Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana told NDTV.

"The police acted swiftly and killed both the assailants. Total three dead, including Gogi," said Asthana.

The incident marks a huge security lapse on the court premises.

The two gangs had reportedly been at war for years and more than 25 people have died in their clashes.

Gogi, born Jitender Mann, was arrested in March last year and was considered a big catch for the Delhi police.
