JKG chairperson Sabrina sent to jail

A Dhaka court on Monday rejected the bail prayer of JKG Healthcare chairperson and cardiac surgeon Sabrina Arif Chowdhury and sent her to jail in a case filed over giving false COVID-19 test reports.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Atiqul Islam passed the order after Sabrina was produced before the court by Detective Branch of Police at the end of her two-day remand. Advocate Saifuzzaman Tuhin moved the bail petition for Sabrina.

The court also asked police to interrogate JKG officials Humayun Kabir Himu in jail gate for three days after police sought seven-day remand for him.

Sabrina was arrested on July 11 by the Tejgaon police and on the following day she was sent to police custody to be quizzed for three days.

DB investigators said that they have interrogated and crossed-examined Sabrina and Ariful Islam Chowdhury over the COVID-19 test scam and they continued blaming each other.

The National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases cardiac surgeon Sabrina has recently been suspended by the health ministry for her involvement with a private organisation without permission.

A Dhaka court on Sunday sent chief executive officer of JKG Healthcare Ariful and his associate Sayeed to jail in the case lodged over issuing fake coronavirus test reports.
