Cases pile up against Pradeep with 2 new lawsuits

Two more murder cases have been filed against Pradeep Kumar Das, suspended officer-in-charge of Teknaf police station, an accused in the murder case of Major (retd) Sinha Md Rashed Khan.

The two new cases were filed in a Cox’s Bazar court, bringing the case count over extrajudicial killings against him to 12, so far.

The cases were filed with Senior Judicial Magistrate Court Judge Helal Uddin on Thursday afternoon by Nurul Amin and Md Selim, both residents of Baharchhara union, Teknaf.

Confirming the matter, Aby Musa, the lawyer for the complainant said, the court has recorded their pleas and ordered Teknaf police station OC to submit the required documents regarding the cases.

In the two cases, Nurul Amin, brother of a certain Abdul Amin, accused 38 people and Md Selim, brother of Mufiz Alam, accused 18 people in their respective cases and claimed that they along with former OC Pradeep, were involved in the murder of their respective relatives, Amin and Mufiz.

They said the killings were framed as gunfights.

In his case statement, Nurul Amin said that on September 21, 2019, a police team led by Pradeep, demanded Tk5,00,000 from Abdul Amin and when denied they picked him up from his house.

Pradeep reportedly threatened to kill Abdul, framing it as a gunfight, if the money was not provided soon, Nurul said.

As the family was not able to provide the bribe to bail him out, Pradeep killed him framing it as a gunfight.

In the second case statement, Md Selim, brother of Mufiz Alam alleged that a police team led by Pradeep, picked Mufiz up and demand Tk15,00,000 from them. They provided Tk6,00,000 to the former OC in July 12, 2019.

The next day, the found out Mufiz was killed in a gunfight in Teknaf.

With the two new cases, a total of 11 cases have been filed in Cox's Bazar court and one other in Chittagong court against Pradeep and other policemen.
