31 COVID-19 patients die, 1,476 new patients detected in 24 hours

Bangladesh on Sunday recorded 31 more COVID-19 deaths and identified 1,476 new cases amid the fluctuation of infection rates.

The rate of infection was 11.35 per cent in the 24 hours ending at 8:00am on Sunday, according to the Directorate General of Health Services.

The DGHS, in its Sunday release, said that 1,476 new cases were detected after 12,850 samples were tested across the country during the period.

With these figures, Bangladesh tallied 3,37,520 coronavirus cases with 4,733 deaths.

Bangladesh registered its first three coronavirus cases on March 8 and the first death from the infection on March 18.

The DGHS said that among the 31 new deaths, 18 died in Dhaka division, five died in Chattogram, two died each in Rajshahi, Sylhet, and Rangpur, and one died each in Khulna and Mymensingh divisions.

Of them, 25 were male and six were female.

Of the dead, 21 were aged above 60 years, seven were between 51 and 60 years, two were between 41 and 50 years, and one was between 31 and 40 years.

According to the DGHS, 2,40,643 COVID-19 patients have recovered so far, including 2,372 in the past 24 hours.
