Railway to allow 100pc passengers from Wednesday

The Bangladesh Railway is going to allow 100 per cent passengers on board from Wednesday.

The Railways authorities took the decision on Tuesday.

They had been running different intercity, commuter and mail trains with 50 per cent passengers against the capacity of each train to contain COVID-19 infections for five-and-half months.

Fifty per cent tickets will be sold at counters while rest of those will be available online.

The decisions were taken at a meeting attended by the railways minister Nurul Islam Sujan, confirmed the ministry’s senior information officer Md Shariful Alam.

The government had suspended the services of public transports, railways and waterways on March 25 amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

All goods-laden vehicles, however, were kept out of the purview of the decision.

The authorities resumed the operations of intercity trains on May 31 with 50 per cent passengers against the capacity of each train.
