Age exemptions for government job-seekers being mulled

The government will consider giving age exemptions to government job-seekers due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Sources at the Ministry of Public Administration said that the government will decide whether to give the opportunity to apply for government jobs to those whose ages have crossed 30-years by March 25.

Different media reports have quoted State Minister for Public Administration Farhad Hossain in this regard.

Secretary of the public administration ministry Shaikh Yusuf Harun said they have sent a summary on this matter to the prime minister but are yet to get a decision.

Asked about the content of the summary, he said: "I cannot say anything about that until it is approved [by the PM]".

He, however, said applicants whose ages have crossed 30 years or 32 by March 25 will be able to apply for the jobs.

Different activities, including the recruiting process, came to a halt due to the countrywide Covid-19 pandemic which broke out in the middle of March.

The government announced a countrywide shutdown from March 26 which continued for 66 days.
