Four held for torturing Noakhali woman, two cases filed

Law-enforcers arrested four people for allegedly torturing a housewife in Noakhali’s Begumganj upazila after a video of the incident went viral on social media.

The Rapid Action Battalion in a text message on Monday said it had arrested key accused Badal in Dhaka and other accused Delwar in Narayanganj with arms.

Five men including Delwar, chief of the local Delwar force and his assistants Badal, Kalam and Abdur Rahim, molested the housewife in early September.

Noakhali police superintend Alamgir Hossain told New Age that they had arrested two other people - Abdur Rahim and Rahmat Ullah - on Sunday night.

The accused stripped the housewife naked and beat her despite her crying for mercy in Ward No 9 of Eklashpurunion of the upazila recently.

A video of the incident went viral on Sunday prompting police to launch a massive drive to arrest the accused.

Police super Alamgir said they have taken the victim to the safe custody and two cases were filed in connection with the incident.

The victim filed the cases under Women & Children Repression Prevention Act and Pornography Control Act, he said.
