Infected 59-year old mayor Atiq told New Age that he gave samples with symptoms and got the result on Monday when he was staying in quarantine in his house.
The chief health officer of Dhaka North City Corporation, Brig Gen Md Zobaidur Rahman, and assistant personal secretary of the mayor Rishat Murshed also tested COVID-19 positive, said the mayor.
The former president of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association Atiq requested all to pray for him and his wife and the officers for their early recovery.
DNCC additional chief health officer Lt Col Golam Mostafa Sarwar said chief health officer Zobaidur was admitted to the Combined Military Hospital, Dhaka.
