Covid-19 in Bangladesh: 5,593 dead, over 2mn infected

Bangladesh conducted 21,12,448 RT-PCR tests in 109 labs till 8 pm on Wednesday and 3,82,959 of them have turned out to Covid-19 positive, which is 18.13 percent of the country’s total tested population.

The country’s health authorities detected 1,684 new cases and confirmed the death of 16 new patients in 24 hours. The total fatalities in the country now stand at 5,593.

Meanwhile, 1,536 patients recovered from the disease and the total recoveries from coronavirus have reached 297,449.

The fatality rate in Bangladesh is still 1.46 percent, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said.

The daily infection rate was recorded at 11.69 percent on Wednesday after the test of 14,411 samples in 24 hours.

Bangladesh reported its first cases on March 8. The number of cases hit the 300,000-mark on August 26. The first death was reported on March 18 and the death toll exceeded 5,000 on September 22.

The recovery rate has climbed to 77.67 percent in Bangladesh, according to the health authorities.

Bangladesh is seeing 2,248.65 infections, 1,746.55 recoveries and 32.84 deaths per million.

Of the total victims, 4,305 are men and 1,288 are women. Of the latest 16 victims, 11 are aged above 50 and five others are aged between 41 and 50.

So far, 2,854 people have died in Dhaka division, 1,124 in Chattogram, 360 in Rajshahi, 452 in Khulna, 193 in Barishal, 238 in Sylhet, 254 in Rangpur and 118 in Mymensingh divisions.

Across the country, 12,427 people are now in isolation and 40,100 in quarantine.
