A Rangpur court today placed three persons including an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Detective Branch (DB) of police on different terms of remand on charges of raping a schoolgirl in the district.

The district's Senior Judicial Magistrate Snigdha Rani Chakrabarty put DB ASI Rayhanul Islam on a five-day remand, while Sumaiya Akhter and Surabi Akter -- the other accused -- were placed on three-day remand each respectively, when the trio were produced before the court today seeking seven-day remand prayer for each, reports our local correspondent quoting ABM Jakir Hossain, superintendent of police (PBI).

Earlier, two other accused -- Babul Akhter and Abul Kalam Azad -- gave confessional statements admitting their involvement in the crime.

According to the case statement, the accused DB ASI tactfully established contact with the schoolgirl and raped her at the house of one Sumaiya Akter and Surabi Akter's help.

Later, the victim was gang raped by Babul and Azad at the same house.

As the girl become sick, the incident came to light, prompting the victim's father to file a case against the accused.
