Erfan Salim, his bodyguard sent to jail after remand

A Dhaka court today sent Dhaka-7 lawmaker Haji Salim's son Mohammad Erfan Salim and his bodyguard to jail after rejecting their bail petitions in a case filed over assaulting navy official Lt Wasif Ahmed Khan.

Metropolitan Magistrate Md Ziaur Rahman passed the order after Investigation Officer (IO) Mobinul Haque, also sub-inspector of Detective Branch (DB) of police, produced them before his court on completion of their five-day remand in two phases in the case.

The IO in a forwarding report said Erfan and his bodyguard Zahidul Mollah gave important information about the incident which was being verified. So, he appealed to the court to keep them in jail until the investigation is completed, the IO added.

Four other cases -- two against Erfan and another two against Zahid -- under the arms and narcotics control acts were filed with Chawkbazar Police Station.

Lt Wasif Ahmed Khan filed the case with Dhanmondi Police Station on October 26, accusing four named and three unnamed persons.

Erfan and Zahidul were sentenced to one year in prison for illegally possessing walkie-talkies and foreign liquor after their arrest on October 26.
