The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (Amendment) Bill, 2020 was passed in Parliament today to empower the BERC to change tariff more than once per financial year.
Currently, the law permits the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) to change tariff only once per financial year.
State minister for Power Nasrul Hamid placed the Bill in the House which was unanimously passed by voice vote.
While placing it, Hamid said price of energy frequently changes in the international market and the government needs to reflect those changes in the local market accordingly.
And that's why the amendment was proposed, the junior minister.
Earlier in June 23, Hamid placed the bill in Parliament which was sent to the respective parliamentary standing committee for further scrutiny. The committee was asked to submit its report within 30 days.
