Criminal Investigation Department of Police arrested a morgue worker on charges of having sex with corpses at the morgue of Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital in Dhaka.
Arrested 20-year-old Munna Vhakta is a nephew of Jatan Kumar, a mortician of the hospital.
Munna has been working as an assistant to Jatan for the last two years, according to police.
CID arrested Munna on Thursday after allegations of having sex with dead women surfaced against him.
The incidents took place from March 2019 to August this year, said CID's assistant superintendent of police Jisan Ul Haque.
DNA tests in the CID lab also confirmed Munna’s necrophilia. ‘The man was arrested after police found evidence,’ said Jisan.
Sexual intercourse with corpses, or necrophilia, is a serious and disgusting crime, he added.
CID officers said that they have received some high vaginal swab samples from the Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital forensic medicine department and there was the presence of male sperm.
After DNA testing, CID lab results showed those were from a single person.
Primary investigation showed that bodies were from Mohammadpur and Kafrul areas.
They went for an investigation and found that the bodies were kept at the morgue for at least a day for completing different procedures.
The investigators tracked at least five incidents, where Munna was at the morgue on the particular nights.
CID claimed that after arresting Munna they performed a DNA test in their lab where all sperms found in corpses matched with him, said Jisan.
