Covid-19: Bangladesh records 29 more deaths, 1,788 new cases

Bangladesh has registered 29 deaths from Covid-19 in the 24 hours to Sunday morning. With the latest development, the total number of deaths reached 6,609 in the country.

The country also logged a total of 462,407 coronavirus cases with 1,788 people testing positive over the same period.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) revealed the latest figures on Covid-19 in the country with a press release on Sunday.

Of the 29 deceased – 23 men and six women – 23 were from Dhaka division, two each from Chittagong and Rangpur, and one each from Rajshahi and Khulna.

All the victims died at different hospitals across the country.

So far, 5,075 men (76.79%) and 1,534 women (23.21%) have died from Covid-19 across the country.

Since the beginning, 3,540 have died in Dhaka division, 1,256 in Chittagong, 402 in Rajshahi, 496 in Khulna, 219 in Barishal, 264 in Sylhet, 300 in Rangpur, and 132 in Mymensingh.

The mortality rate against the total number of cases detected so far stands at 1.43%.

The health authorities said 2,287 people recovered from the disease over the preceding 24 hours.

So far, 378,172 patients – 81.78% – have made full recovery across the country.

As many as 13,737 samples, including the pending ones, were tested in the 117 authorized labs -- government and private -- across the country.

The latest figures show an infection rate of 13.02%. The overall infection rate of the country stands at 16.77%.

Currently, 12,833 people are in isolation and 40,655 are quarantined.
