Police have found a bomb-like object in front of the Annexe building of the US Embassy in Dhaka’s Vatara area.
Upon discovering the object, a bomb disposal unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) rushed to the spot and neutralized it on Wednesday evening.
Sudeep Kumar Chakraborty, deputy commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, Gulshan Division, said, “We received a report that a suspicious object was in front of the US Embassy at around 3:30pm. Later our team rushed there.”
They found a bag, a small box filled with sand, a matchbox, some electric wires and a very small knife at the scene, he added.
“We cannot say if it was a bomb or not. We didn’t take any risk and called the bomb disposal unit and neutralized it,” Sudeep said.
The police official said police were still investigating the matter and had tightened security in the area.
