4 arrested over Sheikh Mujib sculpture vandalising

The police arrested four people on Saturday night on allegations of vandalising an under-construction sculpture of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Khulna Range deputy inspector general of police Khondkar Mohiuddin said this in a press briefing around 3:30pm.

Among the arrestees, two are students and two are teachers of Ibne Mas-Ud Qawmi Madrasah.

The two students are Abu Bakkar alias Mithun, 19, son of Shomser Mridha, resident of Shingpur village under Daulatpur upazila and Sabuj Islam Nahid, 20, son of son Shamsul Alam, resident of Philipnagar in the same upazila.

The two teachers are Al-Amin, 27, son of Abdur Rahman, resident of Dhupail village under Mirpur upazila in Kushtia and Yusuf Ali, 29, son of Azizul Islam, resident of Bamundi village in Pabna.

Abu Bakkar and Nahid took part in the act while the two teachers—Amin and Yusuf—instigated them to do that, the police official said.

They identified the duo anlalysing CCTV camera footages and later arrested them raiding a madrassah at night.

Based on the information provided by the students, the police raided the madrassah and arrested Bakkar and Nahid there.

After primary interrogation, Bakkar and Nahid said that two teachers also helped them to escape.
