2 Bangladeshis shot dead by BSF along Thakurgaon border

Two local young men have been shot dead by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) along the India-Bangladesh border at Betna in Haripur upazila of Thakurgaon early Tuesday.

The deceased identified as Nazir Uddin, 28, of Haripur upazila and Rabiul Islam, 26, of Baliadangi upazila, were local cattle traders, confirmed Haripur police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) SM Aurangzeb.

According to police, Nazir and Rabiul along with their associates decided to cross the border at Betna and trespass over to India early Tuesday to bring home cattle illegally.

After entering India, the cattle rustlers were spotted at Phulbari in Uttar Dinajpur, at which point the BSF opened fire at them. At that time, Nazir and Rabiul were injured and were rescued back home by their associates. The duo later died on their way to the hospital.

Haripur police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) SM Aurangzeb said the bodies have been sent to Thakurgaon Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Meanwhile, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB 50) Captain Lt Col Shahidul Islam said a letter has been sent to BSF protesting the incident.
