DSCC demolishes shops of Phulbaria Supermarket amid protests

The authorities of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) have started an eviction drive at Phulbaria Supermarket-2 in the capital's Gulistan area amid the protests of shop owners and employees.

As many as 911 shops in the market housing three buildings established illegally, are being demolished in the drive that started around 11am on Tuesday, according to the DSCC authorities.

Soon after the drive was launched, the shop owners and employees staged demonstrations protesting against the eviction drive.

A huge number of police were present on the spot while a series of chase and counter-chase between the law enforcers and the protesters took place.

The shop owners alleged that they were given a 12-hour deadline to take away their belongings from shops.

Meanwhile, DSCC Mayor Fazle Noor Taposh told reporters that they would continue the drive at any cost.
