The High Court on Thursday refused to grant anticipatory bails to the wife and daughter of Mohammad Shahid Islam, independent lawmaker from Lakshmipur-2 constituency, in the money laundering case.
The virtual bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Ahmed Sohel also directed Shahid’s wife Selina Islam, a reserved-seat lawmaker, and their daughter Kazi Wafa Islam to surrender to the Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge’s Court within 10-day seeking regular bail.
The Anti-Corruption Commission filed the case against Shahid, his wife, daughter and sister-in-law for laundering Tk 148 crore.
Kuwait-based businessman Shahid, widely known as Papul, is now facing trial as a crime-accused under Kuwaiti local laws. He is currently in jail in Kuwait.
The Kuwait government arrested Shahid on June 6 on charges of human trafficking, bribing Kuwaiti officials and laundering money to other countries.
