Woman gang-raped in Madaripur, 2 arrested

A woman has been gang-raped reportedly by four men while a woman assisted the incident on Saturday in Madaripur's Shibchar upazila.

The incident took place in a house in Pacchor Bakhererkandi area of the upazila after the woman was abducted there from in front of Shonar Bangla Plaza in Shibchar on Saturday.

Police on Saturday night arrested two people including the woman assisting the rape, after the survivor filed a case against five at Shibchar police station.

The arrested accused were identified as Akhi Akhter, 25 and Subol Mondal alias Sumon Molla, 32, while the other accused are Shohag Hawladar, 35, and Eskan, 37.

Confirming, Shibchar police station Officer-in-Charge Miraj Hossain, said that they have found truth in the rape accusation after a preliminary investigation.

According to the case statement, the woman was confined in the house at Pacchor Bakerkhandi from Saturday Morning to afternoon, while she was raped in two phases.

Subsequently, the accused individuals were moving the woman to another spot when she managed to scream on the way and locals intercepted. The culprits managed to flee the spot.

The case details also mentions that the woman was raped as she refused proposal of getting into sex work by the accused woman who assisted the rape.

Sub-Inspector Amir Hossain, the investigating officer of the case said the woman was sent to Madaripur Sadar Hospital for a medical test.
